Choose Life

I’m resolved now
after my Christmas spree
To put something under the tree
Fueled by anxiety
and my ‘dead eared’ plea, to
‘please get nothing for me’

I’m done
with endless entreaties
Final reminders
Must sees and lotteries
Best ever this, top ten that
Enticements to get the latest tat

Like Renton in Trainspotting
I choose life
I’m getting off the hamster wheel
Of self imposed strife
Of this year’s colours, latest model
Built in obselescence
Advertising doggeral

From now on that’s where it’s at
No longer a slave
To the latest rave
I will go to the grave
In charity shop stuff
Or even in the buff
Because I have just had enough
Of notification push
